BioVash is a girl-crazy, crybaby, pacifist, a dork and occasionally an all-out moron. He is in fact extremely intelligent, has god-like reflexes, perfect muscle control, blurring speed over short distances and is superhumanly agile, demonstrating the ability to dodge point-blank bullets on several occasions. He is a product of lost technology called a Freeborn Plant, the Plants being a source of power and energy on his desert planet; as a Plant, he doesn't age (he is 131 years old) and he can, with his gun, turn his right arm into an amazingly destructive weapon called an "Angel Arm", originating from technology which his brother Knives created.
He is an unrivaled gunman who seeks to preserve life wherever possible, special thanks to his long dead surrogate mother, Rem, who taught him in more ways than one just how precious life is. Vash exaggerates his foolish characteristics to make people feel unthreatened and to hide his identity (Vash's reputation as "The Humanoid Typhoon" is legendary, as is the damage and destruction associated with his presence). In fact, Vash shows complete focus and control when the chips are down and when he is attacking.
And, of course -- Vash also has an almost obsessive love of doughnuts.
